Kamalpreet was born on 4th March 1996 in Punjab. While she was in school, Kamalpreet’s performance in academics was satisfactory. However, her performance in sports was exceptional. She was encouraged to participate in discus throw events by her Physical Education teacher due to her physique. In 20112, she participated in the state meet and finished 4th. This achievement drove her to pursue track and field as a career. In 2014 she joined the Sports Authority of India Centre in her village and received her first professional training.

Career
In 2016, she made her professional debut and won the National Championship in the discus throw event in the U-18 and U-20 categories. In the following year, she participated in the World University Games, Taipei, and ranked 5th. In 2018, she did not qualify for the Asian Games, Jakarta main draw due to some fouls. She made a comeback in the following year and clinched the gold medal in the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships 2019.
Her success brought her support from the Go Sports Foundation. In 2020, she broke the national record in the discus throw event at the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships, Patiala. This success booked her a bench at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. In 2021, the Punjabi athlete broke her record at the Indian Grand Prix IV, Patiala. In the same year, she qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics finals for discus throw with a mark of 64 m.
A 23-year-old athlete from Punjab, Kamalpreet has made his best effort in 64 meters to enter the final round as the second-best thrower in Tokyo Olympics 2020 Event.
