Birth & Early Life
Gurjit was born on 25th October 1995 in Punjab to Satnam Singh and Harjinder Kaur. The farming family gave importance to their children’s quality education and sent them to a private school in Ajnala instead of a local government school. Since commuting became difficult they were transferred to a boarding school in Kairon.
Over there Gurjit discovered her passion for Hockey. Her interest and performance booked her a seat in the government win of school with free education and free meals. She then went on to graduate from Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women and continued practicing hockey on the side. This was also the time she got serious about drag flicking.

Craeer
In 2014, Gurjit was selected for the Senior National Camp. She became a permanent member of the Indian National team in 2017. In March, Gurjit played her maiden match Test Series against Cannada. She also competed in the Hockey World League semifinals. Gurjit was brought to the limelight at the 2017 Asian Cup when her team won the championship title and qualified for the 2018 Hockey World Cup, London.
Her team won the championship title and Gurjit became the third-highest goal scorer. Gurjit and the team also competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games against Australia. However, they lost the match. In 2020, Gurjit Kaur showed an impressive performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and led India to the semi-finals.
No one expected the Indian team to win the quarter-final match against Australia at the Tokyo Olympics on August 2. But Gurjit Kaur carried the team’s weight on her shoulders, scoring the only goal of the match to take India’s women’s hockey team to the semi-finals for the first time in Olympic history.
