Meet Kala Banham of The Voice Season 23

Mikaila Banham, also known as Kala Banham, is an American singer, songwriter and Influencer. She gained fame after appearing as a contestant in Season 23 of NBC’s singing competition show The Voice. The show is judged by four renowned figures, Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan.

Who is Kala Banham?

25 years old, Banham hails from Windermere, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in public relations.

Parents

Kala Banham is daughter of Lesz Banham and Riccinni Beloso. Her father is CFO at Hong Kong Disneyland while her mother is a Philippine born Zumba trainer. Her parents currently living in Hong Kong.

Career

While studying, Banham became an integral member of a performing a capella group called Gestalt. This group went on to win first place in the south quarterfinals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in 2019, with Banham being named outstanding soloist.

In addition to releasing their album “Body Memory”, the group also put out a single called “Blackout” which won a 2020 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for best gospel song, with Banham being nominated as soloist.

Banham has also been using her singing talents for various other projects.

From 2014 to 2017 she was worship leader at the Kensington Church of Orlando.

It certainly seems like Banham’s lifelong dream of appearing on The Voice is coming true, as in one of her recent Instagram posts she declares: “So to say I finally made it to that stage is an absolute dream come true.”

Banham performed Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” during Blind Auditions of The Voice 23. She got three chair turn except Blake Shelton and later decided to join Team Niall.

  • Banham is also a graduate of the Osceola County School for the Arts.
  • She often appears duetting with her mother on social media.
  • On her Instagram profile, Banham proudly proclaims herself a “Cat Lady” and her TikToks include a melodic serenade for her cat Haru.
  • Additionally, Banham has been uploading snippets of her own originals to her TikTok account which now has close to 2,500 followers.
