Ali started his career while playing in domestic matches. He made his First-Class debut for Chittagong Division against Barisal Division on December 1, 2012. From 2012-April 2022, Ali has played 62 matches and scored 4176 runs with 9 century and 25 half-century in 101 innings and also made 165 highest score in First-Class format. After First-Class debut, Ali made his debut in List A for Abahani Limited against Victoria Sporting Club on October 31, 2013. From 2013-April 2022, he has appeared in 88 matches and scored 2025 runs with 2 century and 12 half-century in 78 innings and also scored 106 (not out) highest score in List A format.

After List A debut, Ali made his debut in T-20 tournament for Chittagong Vikings against Sylhet Super Stars on November 23, 2015. On his T-20 tournament debut day, he smashed 63 runs off 52 balls. From 2015-September 2022, Ali has appeared in 68 matches and scored 1410 runs with 8 half century and also score 78 highest score.

After domestic matches debut, Ali was selected for Chittagong Vikings in 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League in October 2018. Later on he was selected for Bangladesh’s team for 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December 2018. In next year, Ali was selected for Bangladesh national cricket team squad for One Day International (ODI) for 2019 Ireland Tri-Nation Series in April 2019, but he did not got chance to come on field. After that, Ali was selected for Cumilla Warriors in 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League in August 2019 and in same month he was also selected for Bangladesh Under-23 squad for men’s cricket tournament in 2019 South Asian Games. In that tournament Bangladesh team won gold medal after beating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets.

Ali was selected for Bangladesh Test squad against Pakistan in November, 2021. He made his Test debut against Pakistan on November 26, 2021. After that in next year, he was selected for Bangladesh squad for One Day International (ODI) and T-20 International format against Afghanistan in February 2022. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan on February 23, 2022.  After ODI debut in next month, Ali also made his T-20 International debut on March 3, 2022 against Afghanistan.

Now, 2022 Ali is selected for Bangladesh squad for 2022 ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup on September 14, 2022.
