Birth & Early Life
Smriti Mandhana was born on 18th July 1996 in Mumbai. She grew up in a family of cricketers. Her father and brother were former district-level Cricketers. Smriti was inspired to pursue cricket as a career after watching her brother play for the Maharashtra state Under-16 tournaments. In 2005, she was selected for the Maharashtra U-15 team. At the age of 11, Smriti got scouted for the Maharashtra U-19 team.

Career
In 2013, Smriti made her career debut in the West Zone U-19 One-day Tournament, Vadodara against Gujarat. She became the first woman to achieve a double hundred scoring 224 off 150 balls. In 2014 Smriti made her International debut in a test match against England and led her team to victory. In 2016, her team, India Red won the trophy at the Women’s Challenger Trophy. She scored 3 half-centuries for her team. She was also named the tournament’s top scorer.
In the same year, Smriti signed a contract with Brisbane Heat for the Women’s Big Bash League. She along with Harmanpreet Kaur became the first two Indians to sign up for the League. Smriti scored her first international hundred in the ODI games of India’s tour of Australia 2016. She also became the only Indian player to be named in the ICC Women’s Team of the Year 2016. In 2017, Mandhana joined the World Cup team and led the team to victory over England by 30 runs. She was named the player of the match.
I 2018, Smriti played in the Women’s Twenty20 International against Australia. She has presented the award for the player of the series, for the 3 WODI matches played in England. I the same year, Smriti signed a contract with Kia Super League champions Western Storm and became the first Indian to play in the league.
In August, she scored the first century in the 2018 Women’s Cricket Super League. In October, she got selected for the Women’s World Twenty20 tournament, West Indies. At the end of the tournament, she was named the star of the team. She also received the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women’s ODI Player of the Year awards that year.
In 2019, Smriti played in the ODI against West Indies. In 2020, she was drafted to the Indian squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Australia. In 2021, she got selected to India’s Test squad for their one-off match against England.
Smriti, in the very first innings of the match, scored her first century in Test cricket, and with this, she became the first Indian woman cricketer to score a century in both ODIs and Tests in Australia.
