Riyan was born on 10 November 2001 in Guwahati, Assam. His father is an former first class cricketer who played for Railways and Assam team and his mother is an former swimmer who made record in 50m freestyle at Asian Championship and SAF games.

Career
Riyan started his career by playing his first domestic match in T-20 tournament for Assam on 29 January 2017 against Jharkhand. After that in List A on 3 March 2017, for Assam against Railway team. In list A form he played 29 matches and scored 756 runs at the average of 29.07 and took 26 wickets at the economy of 4.81 and one time 4 haul wickets. He was selected for U-19 cricket team and played his first match against England in Youth Test and scored two half century in 2017 July. After that he played his debut match against Bangladesh in Under-19 Youth ODI on November 2017 and in same month Riyan made his debut in first class on 17-20 November 2017 against Hyderabad. In first class form he played 16 matches and scored 952 runs in 27 innings at the average of 35.25 and took 21 wickets at the economy of 3.82 and one time 5 haul wickets. Later on in December 2017, he was selected for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018.
IPL Career
In 2019, Riyan was bought by Rajasthan Royals at the price of 20 Lakh in Indian Premier League. In that year he played 7 matches and he scored 160 runs at the average of 32 and he bowled 14 overs and took 2 wickets at the economy of 8.64. In 2020, he played 12 matches and scored 86 runs at the average of 12.28 for Rajasthan Royals.
In 2021, also he played for Rajasthan. After that in 2022, Rajasthan released him but again they bought him at the price of 3.80crore in IPL. In that year he played 17 matches and scored 183 runs at the average of 16.64. and took 1 wickets while throwing 4 overs at the economy of 14.75.
