Birth & Early Life
Alen Samilagic was born on 18th August 2000 in Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia. His father was an electrician who worked to make ends meet and provide for his family. The Muslim family lived in a neighborhood that was known for violence and drug trafficking. The family’s home nestled between prison and mental institution just added to the toxic environment.
In the midst of all this, Alen found his cheer in the basketball court in his neighborhood, where he used to play with his father. At the age of seven, Rusten took Alen to KK Beko, a local basketball club. In 2012, he joined their youth teams. As his skills grew, Alen drew the attention of the Serbian National team who drafted him in 2015. In the 2017-18 season, Smailagic played for Beko in the Junior Serbian League. He was named the Junior Serbian League MVP.

Career
Alen was a member of the Serbian U-16 national team that competed in the 2016 FIBA Europe U-16 Championship held in Radom, Poland. He scored an average of 5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 0-3 assists per game.
Smailagic made his senior debut in the Serbian Regional League in the 2017-18 season. In 2018 he was selected 4th pick on the 2018 NBA G League by South Bay Lakers but was traded to the Golden State Warriors. Alen made his debut for the Warriors on 3rd November 2018. Alen was drafted in the NBA 2019 by New Orleans Pelicans but was traded to the Golden State Warriors. He made his regular-season debut on 27 December 2019 and made a win over the Phoenix Suns.
