Achinta Sheuli is an Indian weightlifter who lives in Deulpur, Panchla in Howrah district. He won Silver Medal in district-level competition in 2012 and after one year later, he finished fourth in the sub-junior nationals in the 50 kilogram category. He represented India and won Gold medal in 2019 in Commonwealth Championships by weightlifting 143kg.

He won his first senior-level International medal and won Silver in the World Junior Championships in Men’s 73kg category in 2021. He won the three gold medal for India in Commonwealth World Championship by lifting 312kg in the men’s 73kg weightlifting category. He made a record by lifting 143kg in snatch and 170kg in the clean and jerk series.

Birth & Early life

Achinta was born on 24 November 2001, in Delupur, Howrah, West Bengal. His mother worked as a lace maker and she earn only 500rs every week. His elder brother Alok is an employee of the fire brigade. According to report his mother said that when he was a child, he show laziness with his studies but he scored good marks in exams.

His brother wants to become weightlifter so he joined the Astam Das’s gym. After that Sheuli seeing his brother that he also joined gym for weightlifter. The gym they joined that did not have much facilities. He was just 11 year old and his father died due to heart attack in 2013, After his father’s death his elder brother left the college and weightlifting, but Sheuli focused on weightlifting.

Alok started work of decorating cloth and threading (tailor) together his mother in order to fix the day’s food. Sheuli also worked with and other side he practice for weightlifting in the gym.

Career

Sheuli has started his career in 2012, at the district level competition in the 50kg category and won the silver medal. Then he focused on his goal and participated in the Commonwealth Youth Championships on 11th October 2015 in the 56kg weightlifting category and won Silver medal in the Clean and Jerk by lifting 176kg. After that he was the part of 2018 Asian Youth Championship in this he won the Gold medal for the India, and continued in Senior & Junior Championship in 2019 and won the Gold medal.

In 2021 Commonwealth Senior Championship, he won the Gold medal. Now, in 2022 he won the gold medal after Erry Mohammad failed to lift 176kg and then Achinta was declared as winner.
