Sajan Prakash was born on 14th September 1993 in Idukki district, Kerala. His mother, an employee of NLCIL, is a former national athlete. Sajan was raised in Neyveli, Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. He began his swimming training at a young age at the Neyveli Lignite City Swimming Club.

Career
In 2015, Sajan made a huge breakthrough winning 6 gold and 3 silver at the National Games, Kerala. He was also honored as the best athlete. In 2016, Sajan became the only male swimmer to enter Rio Olympics. He finished at 28th rank in the 200th butterfly event and qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2017, the swimmer participated in the Asian Indoor Games, Turkmenistan. In 2018, Prakash participated in the 100m and 200m butterfly, Freestyle Relays.
He finished 5th in the Butterfly and 8th position in the finals. In the same year, Sajan participated in the Commonwealth Games and came in 8th in the butterfly event finals. In 2021, he became the first-ever Indian Swimmer to clear the A standard of the FINA A at the Sette Colli Trophy. With this, he qualified for the Olympics.
